Boulton, dated the 3rd. instant, of which I enclose a copy,
this view is accepted, it being apparent from a note on
Chart No. B-3785 that Captain Belcher for his soundings of
has karetofore
1841 adopted a much higher zero than had previously been
assumed, though it is not possible to compare with certain-
-ty that zero with those adopted for soundings taken in the
last 20 years.

The comparison which has now been
made by Mr. Boulton in paragraph 18 of his present report
between soundings taken in January, 1887, and in January,
1905, in Hung Hom Bay show on the whole a deepening in that
small area of water.
5.
Should an opportunity offer I will
have test sections taken on the lines referred to in para-
-graph 19 of the report. These are lines in a Southerly and
South-Easterly direction from the Southernmost point of
Stonecutters' Island, in a Southerly and North-Westerly
direction from the South-Western extremity of the Kowloon
Peninsula and in a Southerly direction from the South-
Eastern extremity of the same peninsula.

Should these soundings show no
considerable variation in the bottom to have taken place
in the last twenty years a complete survey, such as has
